The Ivy Market Grill: Breakfasts in Spring
The last few weeks has blessed us with some sunshine, so I decided to stop by one of my favourite breakfast spots, The Ivy, for breakfast outside. If you visit this branch in Covent Garden go for a walk by the river on Embankment, it’s beautiful. Hope you enjoy the review!

COST
The menu is surprising affordable for its central location. Breakfast items range from £4.75 to £13.50 maximum (excluding service charge 12.5%). I think one egg dish is enough per person.
DRINKS
The restaurant has a wide selection of drinks including fresh juices, coffees and teas. We opted for the cappuccino and soy flat white which cost £3.50. the coffees were lovely, frothy and had the right level of strength. For the Instagrammers and lovers of aesthetics, the cappuccino comes with a cute autumn leaf finish!
FOOD
What really brings me back to The Ivy is the Eggs Benedict (£8.50). I feel this restaurant executes it pretty well. The dish is very filling and comes with a generous amount of pulled honey roast ham, additionally the ham which has a lovely smokey, sweet and salty flavour. The eggs were cooked to perfection, firm on the outside and runny on the inside, and the hollandaise sauce had a lovely thick and silky texture and wasn’t too salty – which complimented the ham well. Finally, the muffins were my favourite part of the dish, due to how soft, crispy and warm they were – I appreciated this as a few spots I’ve visited tend to serve the muffins slightly tough.
If you’re a lover of seafood, then you can opt for the Eggs Royale (£9.50). The muffins again were nicely toasted and soft, the smoked salmon gave a lovely salty finish to the dish which was complimented well with the hollandaise sauce.
We also ordered a selection of breakfast pastries (£4.75) which included Danish pastries, croissants and Pain au chocolats – they were all crispy and soft, honestly there was no need for the butter or preserves. This is a good starter to get if you have a sweet tooth, and to share between two.
OVERALL
The ambiance is great, and in summer you can sit outside to enjoy the greenery and a meal. The service and quality of the food on this visit was also very good, staff were attentive. I will be coming back for breakfast again, but I’ll be exploring the rest of the menu!
