Hummingbird Glasgow

After visiting my friend in Glasgow, I didn’t expect to fall in love with the city. One thing that took me by surprise was Glasgow’s extensive collection of restaurants, from Indian to Spanish tapas and endless Pan-Asian cuisine. A walkable city, Glasgow, makes it very convenient to discover new quirky places to eat.Situated in Bath Street, home to a small collection of restaurants and trendy bars I managed to discover the Hummingbird, a Pan-Asian inspired bar and restaurant with dishes prepared by Chef Noi (here's an interview I did with Noi!) and her team. Positioned at the top of the street, the restaurant stood out to me and my friend, unlike the other restaurants, which were tucked below ground level. We grabbed lunch there. COST

This is an affordable spot, meaning you won't spend anymore than £20 each including a starter and main. So if you just want a main, which is filling, you're looking at a minimum spend of £10.

STARTER & MAIN 

At the very entrance we were met with a quirky interior with candles, dimmed lighting and different sofa and table designs (which I loved). So, the drinks menu was pretty extensive including all the classics. I decided to be basic and order the Peach Bellini which was £8.00, but thanks to the Happy Hour all drinks labelled with the Hummingbird logo come at half price, so I paid £4.00.For starters, we had the chilli salt squid with lime (£5.50) and grilled king prawn & chive dumplings (£6.00) - super delicious, but it was a little soggy. This was followed by the Korean BBQ Chicken which came with fries and Asian coleslaw  (£10.50).Usually, when I eat out I rarely go for the chicken option, but it was recommended and I definitely do not regret ordering the dish, as this dish stood out the most. The chicken was well seasoned and moist, the BBQ sauce had the perfect amount of sweetness- (which I was glad about because BBQ sauce does have the tendency to be to sugary), and the sesame seed garnish gave it a lovely nutty finish. The only flaw was that it was not spicy enough so it didn't have the kick I was looking for.

THE AMBIENCE 

Overall, I loved the ambience, the colours and table candles gave a super relaxed vibe, it was an early afternoon, so I am sure it would be busier in the evenings. Even though the food menu was not as extensive as the drinks menu, the options available were still good and I enjoyed my dish. In my opinion, the drinks menu and ambiance was the winner for me as there was so much variety and flavours to explore with.If you are looking for somewhere for great food and especially cocktails, this is definitely a great place to begin a Friday or Saturday night out.

  • Alongside the room’s natural lighting, this room is suited for 15 to 30 guests and provides a LED screen alongside karaoke and laptop equipment. This location is suitable for corporate events, private dining and Hen night celebrations.

• Studio

  • The Studio is a party pod with karaoke and is suited for parties of 6 to 10 groups. If you enjoy Karaoke and love your music this may be a great hire for a night out.

• Penthouse

  • Suited for 25 to 60 guests, this room is fully adaptable and can be used for a various amount of rooms from large party dining to exhibitions.
